MELİS BABADAĞ - A SITUATION THAT HAPPENED TO THE SUN

The artist, who began painting at the age of 3 and created her first oil painting at the age of 5, started her artistic journey in childhood with original works of art, describing it as “a place where she loses her sense of time and space” BABADAĞ codes the paintings born from her childhood memory as “An Incident That Happened to the Sun,” blending her emotional universe with the colors and forms of her inner world. Using colors boldly, BABADAĞ, in her works created in the style of fantastic realism, reveals the reflection of reality within the human being while carrying onto her canvases stories that break their shells, push boundaries, connect almost every form with one another, and bring together reality and imagination.

When her mother, upon seeing a painting she made at the age of 4, asked, “What did you do here?” her response “An incident that happened to the Sun” was in fact an early sign of the direct and sincere mode of expression the artist still preserves today. Even as a small child, the artist unconsciously named the personal exhibition she would hold years later; in her works, she prefers to express herself within an abstract space where balance and chaos, nature and the inner world collide.
