Raffi Kalenderian

Raffi Kalenderian, an American painter, was born in Los Angeles, California, in 1981 and continues to live in the same city. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in fine arts from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 2004. In the same year, he participated in an artist residency program at Idyllwild Arts Academy, and in 2007, he completed the Medium artist residency in Saint Barthélemy, located in the French Antilles. ​ In his portraits, the artist depicts his young friends on a flat, two-dimensional plane, with detailed backgrounds and abstract patterns. His works offer the viewer the opportunity to explore both the psychology of the figures and their relationships with their environment. The painter describes his works as "a post-punk wall of sound blending anime, video games, and Willem de Kooning." ​ Raffi Kalenderian's works have been exhibited in prestigious galleries such as Miles McEnery Gallery in New York, Vielmetter Los Angeles in Los Angeles, and Nassima Landau Art Foundation in Tel Aviv. His works are also included in important collections such as the Santa Barbara Museum of Art and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
