Manolo Valdes
Manolo Valdés, born in Valencia, Spain on March 8, 1942, is one of the leading figures in the contemporary art world. He began his artistic career at the age of 15, studying painting at the San Carlos Fine Arts Academy in Valencia. In 1964, he co-founded the artistic group Equipo Crónica with Juan Antonio Toledo and Rafael Solbes. This group was an important representative of the Pop Art movement in Spain in the 1960s. The group disbanded in 1981 after Solbes' death. Valdés's art is inspired by the works of masters such as Velázquez, Rembrandt, Rubens, and Matisse. He is known for his large-scale canvases, sculptures, and etchings. In his art, he references historical artworks, inviting the viewer to rediscover the artistic heritage. Manolo Valdés creates his works in his studios in New York and Madrid, and his works are exhibited in many prestigious museums worldwide.
