Kojo Marfo

Kojo Marfo

Kojo Marfo, born in Ghana in 1980 and currently based in London, is a multidisciplinary artist whose work synthesizes West African heritage with Western modernism. Drawing inspiration from the traditional iconography of the Akan culture, particularly fertility dolls (Akuaba) and ritual masks, Marfo reinterprets these ancient forms with a contemporary aesthetic. Behind his vibrant color palette and stylized figures, he has developed a unique language that questions universal themes such as gender, identity, and belonging; his works thus offer both visual richness and profound sociopolitical critique. Currently continuing his practice in his London studio, the artist, in this mature phase of his career, focuses on globalization and cultural hybridity. Represented internationally by prestigious institutions such as JD Malat Gallery, Marfo explores the invisible connections between different ethnic backgrounds and the feeling of "otherness" in his recent works. The artist, who narrates the stories of the African diaspora to the world through a universal art language, continues his rise in the contemporary art scene, closely followed by international collectors and art critics.
