Jon Rafman

Jon Rafman, born in Montreal, Canada, in 1981, is an artist, filmmaker, and essayist. His work explores the emotional, social, and existential impact of technology on contemporary life. Rafman completed his undergraduate studies in Philosophy and Literature at McGill University and earned his master's degree in Film, Video, and New Media from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Since the beginning of his artistic career, Rafman's work has garnered widespread international acclaim. He is particularly known for his online work "The Nine Eyes of Google Street View" (2009-present), a project that offers a new approach to digital photography through randomly selected images from Google Street View. Rafman's work investigates the effects of online communities, virtual realities, and digital media on human experience. His piece "New Age Demanded" (2011) is a significant work reflecting the influences of internet culture and the digital age. The artist's works have been exhibited in prestigious museums such as the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal, and MAXXI Rome. He has also participated in major international biennials, including the 58th Venice Biennale, the 13th Lyon Biennale, and the 9th Berlin Biennale. Jon Rafman continues to live and work in Montreal. He is represented by the art galleries Sprüth Magers and Seventeen.
