Haluk Akakçe
Haluk Akakçe (July 4, 1970, Ankara – October 9, 2023, Istanbul) was a painter and interior architect, and one of the leading figures of contemporary Turkish art. Born in Ankara, Akakçe completed his primary, secondary, and high school education, then graduated from Bilkent University's Department of Interior Architecture in 1993. He went to London to pursue postgraduate studies, where he continued his education at the Royal College of Art. Akakçe continued his art career in the United States and England, opening his first solo exhibition in Chicago in 1997. Reflecting a sense of space and infinite time in his works, Akakçe became known in the contemporary art world for his unique style. The artist, who had been receiving treatment for lung cancer for some time, passed away at the age of 53 in his home in Nişantaşı, Istanbul, on October 9, 2023.
