Fernando Botero
Fernando Botero, born in Medellín, Colombia, in 1932, is one of the world's most renowned contemporary artists. Known especially for his exaggerated figures, Botero has developed a unique style in his art by using exaggerated forms and colorful, rounded lines. This style constitutes his distinctive aesthetic, known as "Boterismo." Through this style, the artist addresses social, political, and cultural themes. Among Botero's most well-known works are colossal sculptures, portraits, and large-scale oil paintings. His works often feature oversized figures, rounded forms, and plump characters. Through this exaggerated visual style, Botero questions traditional aesthetic norms in Western art and offers social critiques. By reflecting Colombia's history, culture, and social structure in his works, he has also increased Latin America's influence in the art world. Botero's works have entered many important museums and collections worldwide. His pieces have been exhibited in prestigious institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York and the Centre Pompidou in Paris. Additionally, many of the artist's large sculptures are displayed in open-air spaces.
