Chu Teh-Chun

Chu Teh-Chun (24 October 1920 – 26 March 2014) was a Chinese-French painter known for his pioneering style, which blended traditional Chinese painting techniques with Western abstract art. Born in Xiao County, Jiangsu province, Chu attended the National Academy of Fine Arts in Hangzhou in 1935, where he was taught by prominent artists such as Pan Tianshou, Fang Ganmin, and Wu Dayu. Chu moved to Paris in 1955, became a French citizen in 1980, and in 1997 became the first Chinese-born member elected to the Académie des Beaux-Arts in France. In his art, he created abstract compositions inspired by Chinese landscapes, using vibrant colors and dynamic forms in these works. Chu Teh-Chun's works are exhibited in more than 50 museums worldwide and he is considered one of the most important representatives of modern Chinese art.
