Andy Holden

Andy Holden is an artist born in Bedfordshire, England in 1982. His work includes sculpture, large-scale installations, painting, music, performance, animation, and multi-screen videos. In his art, he tries to reach universal philosophical questions by starting from personal experiences. He gained recognition from a wide audience with the "Art Now: Andy Holden" exhibition at Tate Britain in 2010. In this exhibition, he displayed "Pyramid Piece," a massive knitted rock inspired by a piece he stole from the Great Pyramid of Giza as a child and later returned. Holden is one of the founding members of the art movement called MI!MS (Maximum Irony! Maximum Sincerity). This movement aimed to combine irony and sincerity and was considered a precursor to metamodernism. The artist's works are included in the collections of important institutions such as the Tate Gallery, Leeds Art Gallery, and Bristol Museum. In 2024, he held his first solo exhibition titled "What I Was for What I Am Becoming" at the Charles Moffett Gallery in New York.
