DEVRİM ERBİL
Born in 1937, Devrim Erbil studied at the Painting Department of the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts, in the studios of Halil Dikmen and Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu. After graduation, the artist continued his academic studies at the same institution and served as a faculty member at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University for many years. In Devrim Erbil's works, city, nature, and especially images of Istanbul hold an important place. The artist has developed a unique visual language based on line, rhythm, and repetition, approaching the landscape tradition with an understanding close to abstraction. Bird's-eye view and dense linear structure are among the prominent features of the artist's paintings. Erbil, who uses painting, engraving, and printing techniques together, interprets the urban fabric within a rhythmic and layered surface understanding. Especially his Istanbul-themed works hold an important place in the artist's production and establish a unique position in Turkish painting. Devrim Erbil, who has opened numerous exhibitions both in Turkey and abroad, is considered one of the important representatives of Turkish contemporary painting.
